Day 3: The Drive to Denver

Waking up bright and early has become our new... While Jackie was packing up the sleeping bags and I was broking down the tent. We heard a low rumbling coming from the other side of the main building of our campsite. We ran around the corner to see a hot air balloon filling up on the ground right outside our campground. It was an absolutely beautiful morning and perfect for a balloon ride before it got too hot (it was at least 100 degrees yesterday). Had we known that balloon rides were available I would have jumped at the opportunity. I've been on one before in upstate New York, but Jackie never has. Its an exhilarating experience floating through the sky with nothing but a thin balloon and a torch to keep you airborne.

We got back to I-70 in no time at all and took it East towards Denver. The landscape quickly changed from dry desert to a lush green canyon. To the right of us was a fast moving river filled with white water rafters. And everywhere you looked there was another ski resort with its grass filled trails and ski condos. Unfortunately neither of us took any pictures because while one person would drive the other person was sleeping. But it was simply breathtaking. Driving throught the mountains is fun, but our little Ford Focus had some serious issues getting up some of those hills. We had to occasionally pop her in 2nd gear just to climb to the top.
